This phone is rock-solid and I’m really glad I purchased it. Works well with Google Voice and Gizmo5.
It’s definitely an entry-level product, which is what I was looking for since I didn’t want to commit too deeply to VOIP without testing it out first. By entry-level, I mean the system is missing a few features (e.g. no built-in voicemail; the handset doesn’t have a headphone jack). I didn’t need those since I use Google Voice.
Initial set up was incredibly simple for a VOIP phone. Call quality is much better than my mobile phone even when it has full bars. I have an entry-level DSL connection at home and that seems sufficient.
The phone has automatically picked up two firmware updates since I’ve owned it, making the UI much faster and easier to use.
I was reluctant to buy an IP phone for a long time after a bad experience with a well-known national VOIP service. When I moved to a new house, I tried to go mobile-only, but the sound quality from my cellphone just wasn’t good enough for a lot of purposes, especially for work calls. This phone has been a completely different story – works great, sounds great. For me, combining this hardware with my free Google Voice / Gizmo account has given me a landline without any monthly fees.
Minor complaints: (1) No way to permanently disable blinking “messages” LED on handset after missing calls; (2) No headset jack; (3) web interface on base unit is slow. None of these were dealbreakers for me.
Love it.

The VoIP sound quality on the A580IP is excellent, I believe it supports all the latest audio codecs. Talk time and standby times are also very good. Only complaint is with the UI, it is not very intuitive, it will take sometime to understand and use. However, my non-techie wife uses it daily without any complaints.

I ordered it, to call from Mexico to France with my French VOIP provider.
It was really easy to configure. I just had to select my voip provider which was allready in the list even if it’s a new one on the market.
Then everything was working fine.
My client in France thought I was in Paris as the sound quality was excellent despite my slow DSL connection in Mexico.
I would definitely recommend this product.
The only little downside is that the power adaptor is only 110V. Would have been great to have 110/220. Like this could bring the phone with me in my travel between the office in Mexico and Paris.

I bought this phone to replace my old wireless handset with built-in answering machine. I wanted a phone that you could actually make out the words a caller would leave on a message and while the sound quality of this phone is very good there is no messaging capability built in to the phone. I suppose I can order voice messaging through my land line provider or just go with the triple play and take advantage of the VOIP capability of the phone.
Full disclosure: first time around I just bought the handset, not clearly understanding from the product description that you needed to purchase a base station for the handset to work. It was very easy to return the unit to Amazon and order the handset/base station. But then to find out there was no messaging capability… from this you can surmise my technical aptitude.
After all is said and done though, it turns out messaging is sooo 20th century – despite our “do not call” status we now find that we don’t have to worry about sales pitch workarounds clogging up our message machine – if people want to get a hold of us they call or text our cell phones after all! The land line is now just really for emergencies and international calling.
So all in all, now that I’m adjusting to life in the 21st century I would recommend this as a phone with excellent audio quality – and that’s really what I wanted when I bought it.
