I purchased a Siemens Gigaset Sl 785 system for over $600.00 from Amazon about 6 months ago. One of the handsets developed a problem where the screen became excessively bright. I called the help number, the agent tried to help fix the phone using a reset technique but this did not help. I was told that the phone would be replaced since it was still under warranty. I was told that the company would contact me with a return authorization number within 48 hours. This was more than 3 weeks ago and repeated calls to the company and promises for action have still not resulted in a return authorization. I will update this review periodically and let those who are interested in such issues know what happens. So far service has been nonexistent. After spending so much money for an admittedly wonderful phone, you would think that the company would try to do a better job.
(update #1 3/10) Finally, after repeated attempts I got a Return Authorization # and sent the phone back in Mid January. 2 months later (Mid March) still nothing. This is ridiculous. Here is what they sent me:

I purchased the Siemens Gigaset base unit SL785 and 2 additional handsets number SL78H in November 2009. I have to say that the performance and features of the products are excellent. However, in March 2010 the handset charger broke and the handset can no longer be placed in the charger base. Siemens advertised warranty is 1 year. I contacted their support number 3 times over a 2 to 3 week period. Every time they were nice and promised that a RMA would be sent by email within 48 hours. This still has not occurred and I expect it will not occur. Do not purchase this product if you ever expect that you will need warranty support. Siemens does not honor their warranties. Period.

If you have trouble with coverage, this phone works great. Unfortunately each phone works independentlty and they do not sync phone numbers, ring tones. etc.

Technically – this phone does everything that I wanted. It talks to a Bluetooth headset, it downloaded my contact list from Outlook, it automatically answers as I lift it out of the cradle. It feels hefty and solid.
My disappointment? Two things. First – I have the volume cranked and it just isn’t loud enough. If my hearing was bad – it would be totally unacceptable. Unfortunately, I am at the age where that time isn’t far off. At the moment, the problem is that I have a senior citizen relative who’s voice is hard to hear on the phone. On my other phones, I crank the volume to hear her – on this one, with the volume all the way up, I’m straining to hear her.
My second problem is that the headset is not at all comfortable for me to use. The top of the phone cuts into my ear during long phone calls. It always feels uncomfortable. It is even more so when I speak to someone I can’t hear well, and I unconsciously press the phone tighter to my ear.
I haven’t decided to send it back yet. I have a home office where I take a lot of customer calls. I’m going to see if this works well for me as a Bluetooth only phone.
